FORT WORTH -- Jose Ledesma "Joe" Garza, 79, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 10, 2008. Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 100 E. Pafford St. Following committal prayers, Joe will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: Mr. Garza will lie in state Sunday afternoon in the Chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper; his family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. with a recitation of the holy rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to a charity of one's choice, in Joe's memory, is suggested. A native of Edinburg, Jose Ledesma Garza was born March 10, 1929, the son of Palacio and Genoveva Ledesma Garza. Joe served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Following the war, he moved to Fort Worth. Joe became a prison guard at the federal prison in Mansfield where he taught barber skills to the prisoners for 22 years and then served as a deputy for 10 years with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Alberto, Frederico, Pedro and Lazaro; and a sister, Avita. Survivors: His wife of 57 years, Felix Rivera Garza; sons, Joe Garza Jr., Albert Garza and his wife, Rosemary, and Paul Garza; grandchildren, Samantha Jo, Ruben, Alicia, Paul Anthony, Seleste and Angelo; sisters, Mary Garza Salinas and Altagracia Garza; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
