Kennedale - Katherine F. Flake, 86, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2008, in a care center in Tyler, Texas.Katherine (fondly called Chubby) was born in Kaufman, TX, to the late Evalena and Buck Hannon Ferrell. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Kennedale. She married Leota V. Flake August 13, 1938, in Fort Worth.In 1942, they moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where he served in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II until 1945. Upon his discharge, they returned to Kennedale. She worked for many years at Rays Pharmacy in Kennedale.In 1977 after retiring, they moved to Briarwood Bay on Lake Palestine in Frankston, TX. They spent many happy days there enjoying the birds, wildlife, fishing, and the many new friends they made. She served on the local Briarwood Bay home owners board for a number of years. She was an avid writer, loved composing poems as well as a few songs. She was also an artist specializing in pictures of the local birds.The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Briarcliff Health Center of Tyler and the caregivers of Heart to Heart Hospice for the care given to Katherine during her long illness, as well as the loving friends who provided support to her and the family.Her husband, Leota V. Flake, and brother, Alex (Buster) Ferrell, preceded her in death.Survivors: Nephews Michael Ferrell and wife Jane of Azle, Danny Ferrell of Richland Hills, and cousins, Doris and husband, Rev. G.
