Kathy Barnett

HURST -- Kathy L. Murrell Barnett passed over into the kingdom of God at 5:57 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011, due to complications of breast cancer. She fought long and hard, but God had other plans for her.        Memorial service: 6 p.m. Friday in Lucas Funeral Home Chapel, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst, with Dr. Vernon Gotcher officiating. Visitation: The family will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.        Kathy was born Aug. 15, 1953, in Rochester, N.Y. She later moved to El Paso and then to Richland Hills. She graduated from Richland Hills High School and went on to earn a B.A. in nursing and then a master's degree. She recently retired from TCC, having been a professor of nursing there for about 18 years.        Kathy was a good friend to many and loved time spent with family and friends. She loved to teach, cross-stitch, cook, shop and cruise. Among other things, she adored Christmas and decorated the entire house for her favorite holiday. Her son, J.T., was her finest accomplishment and she was very proud of all he has and will become.        Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Norma Elizabeth O'Brien, and Leon Murrell.        Survivors: Her dear sister, Diane Elliot; son, J.T. Barnett; stepmother, Karen Murrell; stepsister, Yvonne Carver; stepbrother, Robert Murrell; and best friends and extended family, Karen and Chuck Prigmore and sons, Stefan, Nathan and Ryan.
