Lee Esther Smoot

Lee Esther Watkins Smoot was born to John Cleveland and Savannah Donnell Watkins on October 13, 1933, in Brushy Creek, Texas. Lee Esther (the 5th of 8 children) and her family later moved to Fort Worth, Texas where she was educated in the public schools (Carter Riverside). In Fort Worth, Lee Esther met the love of her life, Clarence Lee Smoot.

Clarence and Lee Esther were blessed with four children -- three sons and a precious daughter Carolyn Ann. Lee Esther loved the Lord and provided a Christian education for her children as a faithful member of Johnson Street Church in Fort Worth.

Lee Esther had several roles: Mama, Mother Smoot, Aunt Lee Lee, Granny and Sis. Smoot. However, her most cherished role was that of NANNY. She was the epitome of a God-fearing woman, teaching her family to love God and respect other adults. Even at age 91, she always gave thanks before a meal by saying grace.

Lee Esther's husband, Clarence, daughter, Carolyn Smoot Adams and precious great-grandson, Cavyn Thompson, preceded her in death.

Mother Smoot passed away on January 3, 2025 at the blessed age of 91.

Those left to cherish precious memories include sons, Wendell (Johanna), Ronnie (Gweneth), and Darrell (Barbara); 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lollie Watkins; brother-in-law, Eddie (Ebra) Kelly and Goddaughter, Shumonn Phillips. Also left with precious memories are a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors and dear family friends. 

Visitation for Esther Lee Smoot will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 18, 2025 with service following at 11:00 A.M. at Williams and Lucas Funeral Home located at 517 N. Sylvania Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas with Pastor James P. Thompson, Jr. officiating. Mrs. Smoot will be laid to rest at Cedar Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Arlington, Texas.
