Lennie was born July 15, 1907, in Radcliff, the oldest of seven children. After graduating from high school, she met B.W. Recer, an engineer for Texas Power & Light. They were married in 1929 and had three sons. The family moved to Midland where B.W. worked as an engineer for Texas Electric Service Co. In 1940, B.W., a U.S. Army Reserve officer, was called to active duty. He served at a number of training bases and Lennie repeatedly moved with her three sons. When B.W., an officer in the 3rd Army, went to Europe as part of the Allied invasion force, Lennie re-established the family home in Midland where she served on the local ration board. After the war B.W. returned to Texas Electric Service Co. and was transferred to Wichita Falls and then, in 1953, to Fort Worth. B.W. died in 1958. Lennie married Edwin Steele, a city lighting engineer, in 1961. Edwin died in 1991. Lennie was an active member of Midtown Church of Christ for many years. She was noted for her cooking and the family published her cookbook, which was widely distributed. Survivors: Sons, Ervin L. Recer and wife, Betty, of Mandeville, La., Harold C.
