FORT WORTH -- Leon Harold Brachman died peacefully Tuesday morning, Sept. 7, 2010, early in his 90th year.        Service: 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Barnett Sanctuary at Congregation Ahavath Sholom. Dr. Javier Smolarz will officiate, with Catharine Clark, intern-student rabbi, assisting, and Rabbi Ralph Mecklenburger, Beth-El Congregation, eulogist. Following committal prayers, Leon will be laid to rest with his wife, Fay, and daughter, Ellen, in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery. Bearers of his casket will be Mark Rice, Todd Rice, Ellis Brachman, Max Rice, Eliot Barnett, Lon Werner and Howard Bernstein.        Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of expressions of sympathy to a charity of one's choice, is suggested.        A native of Marietta, Ohio, and longtime resident of Fort Worth, Leon was born July 21, 1920, the son of Elias and Ella Beren Brachman. He was married to the former Fay Rosenthal who died in 2007.        Leon was a member and former president of Congregation Ahavath Sholom, the Jewish Federation of Fort Worth and Tarrant County and the Jewish Education Agency. He was also active in the United Jewish Appeal and B'nai B'rith. Leon was twice named B'nai B'rith's Jewish Person of the year, the only person ever accorded that honor. Civic affairs found him as a longtime member, president and chairman of the Baylor All Saints Medical Center Board of Trustees. He received the Texas Health Care Trustee Foundation Award, the highest award given to a Texas hospital trustee for a record of leadership in healthcare government. His board memberships also included the Camp Fire Girls Club. Leon and his late wife, Fay, were among the founding members of the Van Cliburn Competition and associated with Casa Manana, the Chamber Music Society and the Fort Worth Symphony.        He will be greatly missed by family and many lifelong friends.        Survivors: In addition to his children, Debby Brachman Rice, Marshall Brachman and his fiance, Anne Pizatto, and Wendy "Noga" Brachman Fisher and her husband, Warren, Leon is survived by his grandchildren, Mark Rice and his wife, Ellen, Todd Rice, Ma'ayan Fisher Pauchacho and her husband, Noam, Bezalel Fisher, Eliraz Fisher, Elad Fisher, Ellis Brachman and his wife, Kedrin, Amy Brachman and Sarah Brachman; great-grandchildren, Max, Nathan, Miles and Sabrina Rice and Tuv Pouchacho; sister, Madlyn Brachman Barnett and her husband, Louis; nieces and nephews and their families; and many loving friends.
