Sonny was a vital member of the Fort Worth and Haslet communities for many years. He was born in Justiceburg in 1919. He attended Post High School and graduated from Texas Tech University before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He managed a successful registered Hereford operation, Hall Nance Ranches, and held various positions of leadership in the cattle business, president of the Texas Hereford Association, director of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and secretary of the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show. In January 2001, he was awarded the W.A. "Bill" King Award for excellence in agriculture. He also found time to serve on the Northwest ISD school board. The NISD named a school in honor of him and his wife, Allegra, in November 2005. He was very active in the United Methodist Church, was also a Shriner for many years, and also served on the board of Ridglea Country Club. Most of all, he will be remembered by friends and family for his faith in God and his kind and generous nature. Sonny was one of the all-time great cowboys.
