LOTTIE COMEAU

FORT WORTH -- Lottie Louise Shively Comeau passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, July 6, 2011, early in her 80th year. Service; A memorial eucharist will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 3550 SW Loop 820. A reception will follow in the church's parish hall. Lottie's cremated remains will be placed with those of her husband, Ben, in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Arthritis Foundation or to Prison Ministries, in her memory, is suggested. Born in Franklin County, Neb., on May 18, 1931, Lottie was the daughter of true pioneers, Harry and Abbie Tupper Shively. She graduated from Franklin High School and went on to work in various jobs, from secretarial to car sales. Lottie married and raised six children with her husband, Benjamin Luke Comeau Jr. They eventually settled in Fort Worth in 1967 where Ben retired from the Army. After volunteering at the former Carswell AFB hospital during the Vietnam War, she went to work at Kimbell's and retired from Winn Dixie. Always wanting to learn and expand her knowledge base, she attended Tarrant County College and TCU. Lottie served on the vestry at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Willow Park and worked as the church secretary for a time. Lottie and Ben always had their door open for friends and family to visit or to stay awhile, if needed. Sundays after church, she would put on a big breakfast spread for her kids and their friends. There was always laughter and love, a bed and a meal in the Comeau home. She was very involved with prison ministry at the Federal Medical Center - Carswell, working to bring others to Christ. She lived in God's Word and it was obvious that Christ's love showed through her. She attended and hosted many Bible studies throughout the years. The family would like to thank B.J. Simpson of ResCare for the loving care she gave and Hospice Plus for their care of our mother and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Ben; daughter, Candace Louise Milton; and brothers, Harold, Gene and Jack Shively. Survivors: In addition to her children, Benjamin L. Comeau III and Sharon, Robert L. Comeau, David E. Sprout, Kerry J. Comeau and Nancy and Denise A. Hunter and Jim, Lottie also leaves 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Phyllis Napper and Herb of Stonington, Conn.; brother, Bill Shively and Hilda of Asheville, N.C.; nieces and nephews and their families; numerous dear friends; and her Maltese dog, Chastity.
