DALLAS -- Louis Weltman, 86, died peacefully Sunday evening, Nov. 29, 2009. Service: 3 p.m. Tuesday in Hebrew Rest Cemetery. Born April 10, 1923, in Fort Worth, Louis was the son of Sidney and Hortense Blumenthal Weltman. His maternal and paternal grandparents were pioneer Jewish settlers of Fort Worth in the 1870s and 1880s. His grandfather, Louis Weltmann, was a founding member of both Congregation Ahavath Sholom and Beth-El Congregation. Louis himself was a longtime member of Beth-El Congregation. He graduated in 1947 from the University of Texas at Austin and worked as a chemist for most of his professional career. Louis had a brilliant mind and was known for his excellent sense of humor and his acerbic tongue. Even though he lived in Dallas for the past 10 years, Louis never let anyone forget that Fort Worth was his home. Survivors: In addition to his children and their spouses, Wendy and George Palmer of Dallas, Randy and Stephanie Weltman of Mayfield Village, Ohio, Bob and Gail Weltman of Richardson and Jerry and Sharon Weltman of Baton Rouge, La., Louis is survived by his grandchildren, Noah Palmer, Monty, Nita, Nate and Max Weltman, Natalie and Julie Weltman, Alex and Elizabeth Weltman; brother, Henry Weltman and his wife, Bettye, of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
