Marie Huggett

BEDFORD -- On Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, Marie Elaine Huggett, 68, lost her battle with cancer. Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday at Lucas Funeral Home. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lucas Funeral Home Hurst, TX. Marie, Bob and their children moved to Bedford in 1970 from their hometown of New Orleans. She graduated from TCC and attended UNT in Denton. She was a certified licensed chemical dependency counselor/therapist for 25 years at the Springwood campus of Texas Health Resources in Bedford. She was also a licensed alcohol and addiction counselor III. She worked for years under the tutelage of Dr. Newton Galusha. In 2011 she was awarded Most Professional Counselor at the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals awards banquet. She also has an award named after her, The Marie Huggett Volunteer Award. She had directed a Monday evening group for family members for many years and some members have been attending for over 15 years. Her admiration for her colleagues made her a real team player. Marie was a leader and a strong woman who exhibited strength in every area of her life. Her first love was the family that she built with her best friend and husband, Bob. Marie touched the lives of many but has left a permanent footprint on those who were privileged enough to call her wife, mother, sister, grandma, great-grandma, aunt and friend. She had a larger-than-life passion for those whom she loved. Her passion was not limited to just family. She was passionate about her work and the people it brought into her life. "Angel on earth" is a title she earned each and every time she helped another human being recover from the terrible disease known as chemical dependency. Marie's no-nonsense approach to dealing with life and her tremendous compassion for others earned her the respect of peers and other professionals in her profession. Marie leaves us in body, but not in spirit. Her spirit lives on in each person she has touched. We have been blessed to have loved and been loved by this amazing, loving woman. Our "angel on earth" is now an angel in heaven. We will miss her, but rejoice in the blessings she has given us all. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Elizabeth Marino, and father, Neal Beck. Survivors: Her devoted and loving husband of 52 years, Robert Huggett; son, Rick Huggett and his wife, Penny, of Keller; daughter, Theresa Oakes and her husband, Robert, of Roanoke; daughter, Tanya Lang and husband, Dimitrij, of Bedford; son, Steven Huggett and wife, Jeannette, of Navarre, Fla.; brother, Ralph Beck and wife, Janice, of Gonzales, La.; sister, Pamela Milton and husband, Ronnie, of Bedford; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
