NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Marie M. Schaefer passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2011. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 7341 Glenview Drive, North Richland Hills. Interment: Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, N.J. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst, with a rosary beginning 7 p.m. Our beloved friend, Marie Schaefer, has gone to heaven to join her mother, Mary, and Father, Robert, on Dec. 23, 2011. Maria was born in New York City on July 6, 1934. She worked for American Airlines from 1957 to 1997, first as an analyst and then moved up to programmer. She moved from Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., to Tulsa in 1973 and then to DFW in 1983. There she settled with her mother in North Richland Hills. After retiring in 1997, she directed her talents to many organizations. She volunteered her time for the Animal Shelter of North Richland Hills, taking cats and dogs to visit the area nursing homes. Sh was voted president of the local PC Users Group where she shared her talent with computers. A fantastic cook she was ready to answer questions on any recipe. She was also a regular at the Tipp's Canine Hollow Dog Park where Marie and her German Sheppard, Zola, went to meet and visit with the local dog lovers. Marie was an avid German Sheppard trainer in earlier years and later she accepted dogs from a breeder in Vancouver, Canada, to live out their lives with her as pets. As a graduate of the Citizens Police Academy of North Richland Hills and a member of the Red Hats, she kept busy. She attended St. John the Apostle Catholic Church where she donated food regularly and was an associate of Opus Dei. But most important was her gift of time to anyone who needed it. She offered rides to doctors, a visit, a meal when you were sick, a phone call, a beautiful inspirational email when you were down and just to talk and share. She was a good friend to many and we will try to carry on with her good examples. Surely, she will be one of the beloved stars of heaven. Survivors: She is survived by relatives in Germany, New Jersey, Ohio and California.
