Mary (Katie) Catherine Fields

Mary Catherine "Katie" Fields passed away Thursday, Jan. 10 2013, at a local care facility at the age of 85. Katie had been ill a short time following a stroke and other complications. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, St. Laurence Episcopal Church, 519 N. Kimball Ave., Southlake, followed by a reception. Katie was the daughter of Fred and Marguerite Davis and the only grandchild of J R Edwards, former mayor of Fort Worth. Her grandfather challenged her at the age of 5 to learn to play on the piano a certain favorite. If she learned, he would immediately buy her a grand piano. Katie met the challenge and was given a beautiful grand piano, which to this day is still in use by her daughter down in Galveston. Katie enjoyed the skill of being able to not only play by sheet music but by ear as well. She was a graduate of Polytechnic High School and received her bachelor's degree from North Texas State. Katie was a member of the choir at her church, St. Laurence Episcopal Church in Southlake. Survivors: She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Stiglich; Katie will also be missed by her longtime friend and associate, Miriam Moore.
