Mary Anna Meyer was born April 21, 1912, in Wichita Falls. Both her parents had immigrated from Czechoslovakia and established the family farm outside Wichita Falls. Mary was the ninth of 11 children. She boarded at the Academy of Mary Immaculate in Wichita Falls. These were happy years as she observed the sisters and their activities. But after her mother died, Mary left school to work to support the family. She wanted to enter the convent but felt she could not afford it. But, Sister Johanna at the academy invited her to enter, and that settled the matter. Mary entered the Sisters of St. Mary in February 1934, taking the religious name Sister Mary Alberta. She made perpetual vows in August 1942. Trained as a teacher, Sister Mary Alberta spent 35 enjoyable years teaching students in Sister of St. Mary schools in Texas (Fort Worth, Dallas, Sherman, Denison and Beaumont) and California. Sister Mary Alberta obtained an LVN certificate in 1972 from St. Joseph School of Nursing and then began a new career as nurse at Our Lady of Victory Infirmary. She served as school nurse at Corpus Christi Academy Minor Seminary from 1986-1991. Sister Mary Alberta returned to OLV Center in 1991 as assistant pharmacist. She gradually retired from nursing to take up the ministry of intensive prayer for seminarians and priests and for special intentions. She was a woman of deep faith, prayer and dedication. Survivors: Sisters, Mrs. Alma M. Zeissel, Mrs. Bertha Miller and Mrs. Elsie Thames; nieces and nephews and their families; and the sisters of her religious community.
