MARY SLAUGHTER

Born Sept. 10, 1909, on a West Texas ranch, Mary Arona Harbison was the daughter of Eli Virgile and Effie Adilia Crozier Harbison. She grew up in Bellevue before attending and receiving a teaching degree from C.I.A.(College of Industrial Arts) for Women in Denton. The school is now known as Texas Woman's University. She taught in Bellevue and Graham until 1935, when she met and married Gibbs Slaughter of Dallas. The couple began their married life in Athens before moving to Fort Worth in 1940. Mary was a loving, generous person who created a rich, nourishing environment for those whom God placed around her. She was a longtime faithful member of University United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Slaughter was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Stacy Ann Slaughter, and son-in-law, Paul "Corky" Wallin. Her family wishes to express thanks to Odyssey Healthcare Services for their hospice care, support and kindness. Survivors: Children, Mary Ann Slaughter Wallin of Houston and Gibbs M. Slaughter Jr. and his wife, Joy, of Fort Worth; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
