Meredith Miller "Mert" Cox, 87, a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at 10:35 AM on Sunday, October 17, 2010, in his home. Mert was born in Azle on April 15, 1923, the son of Emmons and Sally Mae Miller Cox. He joined the United States Navy on Oct. 17, 1941, and retired as a chief petty officer in November 1961, after serving as a chief aviation structural mechanic and recruiter for Arlington, Grand Prairie, Irving and Mid-Cities area, where he gave unsparingly of his time in promoting the Navy. Following his retirement, he moved his family to Mansfield, where he eventually took ownership of Mansfield Feed Mill, which is still owned and operated by his son, Reggie Cox. Mert was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Betty Jane Cox; one son, Meredith Rickard Cox; and his parents. Survivors include his Children, Thomas L. Cox, John Cox and wife, Jan, and Reggie Cox and wife, Carmen, all of Mansfield; and grandchildren, Miller Elliott Cox and John Sterling Cox.
