NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Michael John Hochreiter, 53, born in Juneau, Alaska, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2014. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst, with burial following in DFW National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org A Texas native since 1974, Mike joined the Air Force in 1981. Graduating at the top of his class, he was asked to become an instructor. He made a career as an air traffic controller at DFW retiring in 2010. Mike loved God, the United States and his family, especially his nieces and nephew. He will be remembered for his voice like Merle Haggard, a dry humor and a generous heart. When other kids would bring home stray animals, Mike would bring home friends with no place to go. He will be greatly missed by his family and FAA family. He was predeceased by his father, Fred Hochreiter, in 2013. Survivors: His mother, Irma Hochreiter; brother, Fred; sisters, Brenda, Barbara and Maria; as well as nieces and nephew.
