FORT WORTH -- Natalie Raker Cohn, 87, died peacefully Saturday, May 16, 2009. Funeral: 3 p.m. Monday in the Barnett Sanctuary at Congregation Ahavath Sholom, 4050 S. Hulen St. Rabbi Alberto "Baruch" Zeilicovich and Dr. Javier Smolarz, ritual director, will officiate. Following committal prayers, Natalie will be laid to rest next to her husband, Harry, in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery with Sander Davis, Robert Goodman, Michael Greenwald, Hal Radetsky, Bob Weinfeld and Dr. Richard Zweig serving as bearers of her casket. Minyan services will be held at the residence of Jim and Elaine Stanton, beginning at 6 p.m. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Congregation Ahavath Sholom or to a charity of one's choice is suggested. Born April 6, 1922, in Scranton, Pa., Natalie was the daughter of Charles and Helen Raker. She graduated as a registered nurse from Temple University and served her residency at the Jewish Hospital Association of Philadelphia, School of Nursing. Natalie married Harry Cohn June 30, 1946, and moved to Fort Worth in 1948. She was a longtime active member of Congregation Ahavath Sholom where she was president of the Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed working in the gift shop every Sunday. She was a life member and a past president of Hadassah, a member of B'nai B'rith and the National Council of Jewish Women. Her memberships also included the Woman's Club of Fort Worth. She was a Life Master bridge player and was an avid supporter of the arts and culture groups in Fort Worth. Her civic activities led to her receiving a "Key to the City" for establishing a day care program. In 2008, Natalie moved to the Legacy at Willow Bend in Plano where she made and treasured friendships during the short time she was there. Survivors: In addition to her daughter, Carol Cohn Toobin and her husband, Bernie, of Santa Fe, N.M., Natalie is survived by her daughter, Elaine Cohn Nogen Stanton and her husband, Jim, of Fort Worth; son, John Cohn and his wife, Barbara, of Dallas; grandchildren, Brian and Matthew Toobin, Michael and Alisa Nogen, Dr. Caron and Alex Zamansky and Harrison Cohn; stepgrandchildren, David and Nguyen Stanton and Sarah and Michael Holland; brothers, Jerry Raker and his wife, Beverly, and Dr. Stanley Raker and his wife, Ilene; sister, Phyllis Raker Zweig; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
