FORT WORTH -- Ollie Carrol Payne died peacefully Friday morning, March 5, 2010, in his 88th year. Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper. The Rev. Eugene Copeland of Trinity United Methodist Church, Arlington, will officiate. He will be laid to rest privately, next to his wife, Oma Lee, in the Mausoleum at Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: Mr. Payne will lie in state at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. and on Monday where family and friends will be received in the Great Room from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to the West of the Pecos Museum, P.O. Box 1784, Pecos, Texas 79772, 432-445-5076, or the American Red Cross, Chisholm Trail Chapter, 1515 S. Sylvania Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76111, honoring Ollie's memory, is suggested. Born on Jan. 31, 1922, in Pecos, Ollie was the youngest son of Phillip Roquello and Dora Mabel Buchanan Payne. He was a 1939 graduate of Pecos High School and married Oma Lee Smith on March 25, 1942. Ollie entered the military in January 1943. During World War II, he was wounded and received an honorable discharge in December 1945. Following his military service, Ollie returned to Pecos where he worked for Community Public Service Company. In 1947, he was transferred to Fort Worth where he continued to work while attending Texas Christian University. He graduated with a bachelor of science from TCU in 1951. In 1955, Ollie joined Coca Cola Bottling Company of Fort Worth. He retired in 1987 as an assistant corporate officer after 32 years of service. He was a longtime member of St. Stephen Presbyterian Church. His family would like to say thank you to the staff at Arlington Villa, Heart in Hand and Freedom Hospice for their care and many kindnesses shown. Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 60 years, Oma Lee; and brothers, Malcolm and Leroy Payne. Survivors: In addition to his daughter, Carrol Jean Payne Nokes and her husband, James, of Arlington, Ollie is survived by his son, Phillip Lee Payne and his friend, Patricia Thebo, of Haltom City; grandchildren, JoBeth Morrison and her husband, Travis, of Tyler, M. Jason Ankele and his wife, Cindy, of Alexandria, Va., Jennifer Roberts and her husband, Craig, of Sulphur Springs and Kara Payne Carsia of Anthem, Ariz.; stepgrandsons, Callan Nokes and his wife, Kelli, of Lakeway and Cameron Nokes and his wife, Hannah, of Austin; eight great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews and their families.
