MANSFIELD -- Orene Exie McKennon, 89, went to be with her heavenly Father on Thursday, April 8, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer. On her journey, she was surrounded by her loving family. Her family was the world to her, and she was at her happiest when she had them all with her. Pallbearers will be Jason and Kevin Brown, James Mayo, James Grimsley, Carson Lafavers and Edwin Grimsley. Honorary pallbearers will be Cameron Lafavers, Benny Mayo, Mason and Ty Brown and Kale and Jacob Teter.Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Community Hospice of Texas, 6100 Western Place, Suite 500, Fort Worth, Texas 76107, or No Place Like Home, 6012 Reef Point Lane, Fort Worth, Texas 76135. Orene was born Sept. 2, 1920, to Ed Grimsley and Hester Black Grimsley Boyett on her family's farm just outside Kennedale. Orene was a Christian woman and gave her life to Christ when she was 11 years of age. She always put God and family first. Orene was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church in Kennedale, where she had been an active member since 1969, earning the love and friendship of everyone she touched. She was always positive and always found good in everything and everyone. Her family best remembers the celebrations with her at her home where she loved to cook all of our favorites. She was married to William Donaldson "Don" McKennon on April 26, 1937. They had a very loving and meaningful marriage for 53 years until his death in 1990. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Welton and Skeet, and a grandson, Rodney Key. The love she had for her family and friends and her memory will be cherished by all that knew her. Survivors: Her son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Sue McKennon; and daughter and son-in-law, Karon and Darrel Ashmore. She was the proud grandmother of Stephanie McKennon, Jerene Lafavers, Michelle and husband, James Mayo, Patrick Shipp and friend, Jimmy, Jason Brown and wife, Alane, Kevin Brown and Annette and husband, Kevin Teter; and great-grandmother of Carson and Cameron Lafavers, Benny Mayo, Mason and Ty Brown, and Kale and Jacob Teter.
