GRANBURY -- Orpha Mae Blood, 94, passed away peacefully Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, in Fort Worth. Service: Family and friends will have a service this summer to celebrate her life. She will be interred with her husband in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorials: If desired, please make donations in lieu of flowers to Honor Flight of Fort Worth. Orpha Mae was born in Cochran Mills, Pa., to Albert George Riggle and Lydia Christinia Held Riggle. She was a registered nurse who graduated from West Penn School of Nursing in Pittsburg, Pa., and enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps at the beginning of World War II. She advanced to the rank of first lieutenant and served in every theater of action. After the war, she met and married the love of her life, Roy V. Blood, and moved to Texas. She returned to school and graduated with honors from the Texas Woman's University College of Nursing and then continued to serve her country in the cardiac intensive care unit at the VA Hospital in Dallas. She said that she enjoyed taking care of young soldiers and liked caring for the older ones, too. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy V. Blood. Survivors: Daughter, Jane and her husband, Richard McDonald, of Stephenville; sons: R. Victor Blood Jr. and his wife, A.J. Wolery Blood of Euless and John Blood and his wife, Elizabeth Danze, of Austin; and grandchildren, Melissa Debord and husband, Robert, Stephen McDonald and wife, Christie, Kayla Blood, Daegan Blood, Garrett Blood, Julia Blood and Audrey Blood.
