ARLINGTON -- Prudence Howard Lucas passed away peacefully at her home in Arlington on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Funeral: 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Arlington, Dr. Eugene Robertson, the Rev. Miriam Georg and Rev. Guy Blair SCJ officiating. Burial: Following the funeral in Minters Chapel Cemetery. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 4002018, Des Moines, Iowa 50340-2018; and/or Arlington Life Shelter, 325 West Division St., Arlington, Texas 76011-7415. Prudence Howard Lucas was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Norfolk, Va. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James A. Lucas. Prudence's parents were Cmdr. Jasper V. Howard, M.D., U.S. Navy, and Prudence Wyman Howard. Prudence met Jim Lucas at Fort Lewis, Wash., and they were married at St. John's Episcopal Church in Olympia, Wash., on March 10, 1945. Prudence accompanied Jim on his return to Texas and they lived in Lubbock, Fort Worth, Richland Hills, and Arlington. Prudence was an active homemaker and mother. She enjoyed many activities such as golf with friends and her husband, reading, and her church. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was past president of Shady Valley Women's Golf Association. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was also a member of the Arlington Woman's Club and the Fort Worth Petroleum Club. Survivors: Prudence is survived by her loving daughters, Nancy Lucas Gleim and husband, Karl Gleim, and Prudence Lucas Ruckman and husband, Ron Ruckman; her brother, Jasper Howard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
