Honorary pallbearers will be his nephew, Art Snell, and brother, Danny Mornson. Ray was born in Escanaba, Mich., on Aug. 31, 1920, the son of Harvey and Mary Kundinger Mornson. He was "one of the finest of the Greatest Generation," says his niece, Yvonne Webster. Ray served a total of 14 years in the U.S. military, first enlisting in the National Guard in 1939. He was a veteran of the Army during World War II, and took part in the Normandy Invasion and other major battles in northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and central Europe. Ray and his comrades received several unit citations for their bravery and accomplishments in battle. After his honorable discharge from the Army in 1945, Ray re-enlisted in the Air Force and served until 1953. He then settled in Fort Worth, where he went to work for General Motors, a position he held for 29 years. It was also in Fort Worth that he met his future wife, Annie York. Ray and Annie York Mornson were married for 42 years until her death in 1992. At age 89, Ray, a man with a heart as big as the Texas that he loved, followed his beloved Annie in death May 8, 2010, at a hospital in Fort Worth. In addition to his wife Annie, Ray was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Mornson, and mother, Mary Kundinger Mornson; brothers, George, Robert and Louis; and sisters, Marie Snell and Theresa Bougar.
