KENNEDALE -- Leon Swiney, 78, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 15, 2011. Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 309 N. Kenney, Kennedale. Interment: Emerald Hills Memorial Park in Kennedale. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Blessing Funeral Home in Mansfield. He was born March 2, 1933, in Fort Worth to Raymond Rufus and Polly Leoda Prather Swiney. Leon was raised on a dairy in his hometown of Kennedale. He joined the Navy and married Ethel in 1953. They had three sons together. After his service in the Navy, he returned to Kennedale. He drove a Greyhound bus for 27 years. During that time he enjoyed seeing 48 of the 50 states. After his retirement from Greyhound, he was able to spend more time with family and taking care of his cattle. He enjoyed going to gospel singings and making new friends. He rarely met a stranger and always had a joke or story to tell. He will be greatly missed by all those who love him. Survivors: Wife of 58 years, Ethel; sons, Randy and wife, Debbie, Larry and wife, Lisa, and David and wife, Debi; and grandchildren, Tyler, Chase, Robby, Chelsey, Erica and Jason.
