Rex Daryl Bell of Pilot Point, Texas fell asleep at his earthly home on November 30, 2008 only to awaken in his heavenly home to spend eternity with his Lord, Jesus Christ. Rex lost his courageous battle with stomach cancer at the age of 58. Rex was born on Christmas day, 1949, to Homer J. & Eva Mae (Shockley) Bell in Bowie, Texas. He grew up on the family farm in Montague, Texas. Rex graduated from Forestburg, Texas in 1968, went on to Cooke County Junior College in Gainesville, Texas, and then graduated from East Texas State University (now TX A&M - Commerce) in 1972 with a BS in Industrial Technology. Rex met Nita Sue Dimock of Henrietta, Texas on a blind date at the Dairy Queen in Bowie. They were married on June 30, 1973. He worked for Bowie Industries and Bell Manufacturing in Bowie until 1986. In March of 1987, he was hired at Peterbilt Motors in Denton, Texas. In 1990, Rex moved his family of five to Pilot Point. Rex was a beloved husband, proud dad and gramps, loving brother, a friend to everyone he met, and a helper to little old ladies. Rexs love for his family and friends was apparent to all who knew him. Never meeting a stranger, Rex was always willing to help anyone no matter how big or small the need. He knew just what to do to make people laugh and smile. Rex was a good man who touched many lives. If a man was measured by the size of his heart, Rex would be a giant! Rex leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Nita; son Brandon Bell and wife, Ann, of Spring, TX; daughter Leilani Schaffer and husband, Sam, of Sanger, TX; daughter Valerie Young and husband, Chris, of Pilot Point. Grandsons TJ May, Elijah Young, and Isaiah Young, and granddaughters Jeileigh Schaffer and Kyler Bell will greatly miss their silly Gramps. He was also Gramps to his bonus grandkids Jeremy, JT, and Samantha Schaffer. In addition, Rex is survived by his brothers Homer Bell and wife, Linda, of St. Jo, TX, and Wayne Bell and wife, Lisa, of Bowie, his sister Karen Johnson and husband, Ronald, of Montague, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by one special cousin, Pam Davis of Kingwood, TX. Rex, too, leaves behind his favorite mother-in-law Marcella Dimock, his best bud Ronda Robinson, both of Pilot Point, and great friends Brent and Sherri Smith of Tioga, TX. Rex also leaves behind his Peterbilt family of 20 plus years. Rex will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. As Rex begins his new journey, he will be greeted by his mom and dad, Eva Mae and Homer J. Bell, father-in-law Lee Dimock, nephew Michael Bell, and many other relatives and friends who got to Heaven before him. They better watch out for his practical jokes. He now has the best seat in the house to watch the Cowboys play while eating bologna sandwiches. Pallbearers will be Donnie Grahl, Les Fortenberry, Jack Souther, Danny Whitaker, Keith Gramling, Brent Smith, Darrell Weatherly, and Casey Cox. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, World Vision, United Way, or to the charity of your choice. Thanks to all who cared for Rex at Baylor Medical Center Dallas, Presbyterian of Denton, Integrity Hospital, doctors, nurses, techs, RTs, etc.
