Richard was born May 2, 1960, in Fort Worth, where he was a lifelong resident. He attended and graduated from Amon-Carter Riverside High School in 1978 and entered the U.S. Air Force, where he served his country honorably. During Richard's time spent in the Air Force, he provided security in 97th Security Police Squadron and was hand-selected to provide security for the 1980 Winter Olympics that were held in Platsburgh, N.Y. While in the Air Force, Richard obtained an associate degree in criminology. Upon leaving the Air Force, Richard provided security consulting and services for top-level employers over his security career. He was certified by the state of Texas as a commissioned security guard as approved by the Board of Private Investigators and Private Security Agencies. His last employer was the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, where he loved helping the boys and girls keep safe and making sure they had a good time while touring the museum on their various field trips and excursions. Richard was an avid sports fan where he had become an accomplished golfer and enjoyed following basketball his favorite sport, that he played and lettered in varsity at high school. He was an animal enthusiast and took in stray animals and provided care for them. Richard was predeceased by his father, Richard L. Shergold, and his wife, Kathy Shergold. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association in Richard's memory. Survivors: His devoted mother, Ms. Jo Hogan and his stepfather, Michael J. Hogan, of Fort Worth; and brother, John L. Shergold of Brownsvil1e.
