FORT WORTH -- Robert W. "Johnny" Johnson, 85, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008. Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lucas Hurst Funeral Home Chapel, 1321 Precinct Line Road. The Rev. Landy Senter of Western Hills United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial: Following a committal service at 2 p.m., Johnny will be laid to rest with military honors in a family section of Big Spring Cemetery, 6538 Jupiter Road, Garland. Visitation: Johnny will lie in state in the funeral home Tuesday afternoon. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials: Friends who desire are respectfully invited to honor Johnny's memory with gifts in his hame to Western Hills United Methodist Church, 2820 Laredo Drive, Fort Worth, Texas, 817-244-1153; or to the American Heart Association, P.O Box 841125, Dallas, Texas 75284, 800-242-8721. Robert W. Johnson was born and reared in Burlington, Iowa. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. He was a pilot instructor, training pilots for duty in World War II and advanced to the rank of major in the U.S. Air Force during his 26-year career. His last duty station brought him to Carswell AFB in Fort Worth where served as chief procurement officer. While his tours of duty took him all over the world, he knew Texas was where he wanted to live. After retirement, he pursued his passion for painting, excelling in scenes of the Texas Hill Country. He was active in several local art associations. Survivors: Wife of 42 years, Dorothy; sons, Gary L. Johnson and wife, Phyllis, Gary M. Johnson and wife, Ann, Tracy Johnson and wife, Sylvia, Tony Johnson and wife, Laure, Don Davis and wife, Patsy, and Sparkie Ray and husband, John; 14 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
