Shirley was born Oct. 30, 1934, in Fort Worth. Mom was an avid tennis player for many years. She loved to walk her dog, Deunce, daily. She retired from teaching after many years in the Arlington and Conroe public school districts. After retirement, Shirley worked as a volunteer in the Arlington Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was an active member of the Arlington Bridge Club. She was a longtime member of Sagamore Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Most of all, she was a loving faithful wife, mother and grandmother. We know, as believers, this is a brief goodbye and we will join her in heaven. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Richard E. Hix, in 2002, and by a son, James Robert Hix. Survivors: She is survived by her daughters, Donna Vitellaro and husband, Neil, of Seattle, Wash., Amy Lopez and husband, Hector, of Southlake; grandchildren, Chris Milyo, Richard Chase Milyo, Madison Milyo, Whitney Vitellaro and Nick Vitellaro; sister, Jean Reid and husband, Jack; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Monell Hix; numerous nieces, nephews and extended- family members. Memorials: Friends who desire are respectfully invited to honor her memory with contributions in her name to Sagamore Baptist Church.
