Shirley Pirkle

FORT WORTH -- Shirley Pirkle passed away peacefully at a local hospital Sunday afternoon, Nov. 7, 2010. Funeral: 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Lucas Funeral Home, 517 N. Sylvania. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Shirley had a shadow named "Shanda," her little dog, that took every step with her and never getting out of eyesight with each other. Shirley did have a love for her pets, which included another little dog named Zoie and her love extended to two African gray parrots Zoie and Susie. Shirley and Zoie (the African gray) had a daily conversation. A very simple, undemanding wife, she loved to grow and transplant flowers. Even with her ever-failing eyesight, Shirley loved cooking. And her favorite shopping store was Goodwill, and she also loved garage sales. She will be deeply missed by all, especially her husband, who was her best friend, and her girls, Shanda and Zoie. Special thanks to Michaela, R.N., at John Peter Smith's ICU 3rd floor for being there and being so attentive, thoughtful and professional in Shirley's last hours of her life. Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Shawn Howard, who died unexpectedly at the early age of 28; her parents, Thurman and Dorothy Brickey; and her brother, Larry Brickey. Survivors: Her best friend, soulmate and husband, Larry Pirkle; her immediate animal family, dogs, Shanda and Zoie, parrots, Zoie and Susie; sons, Tony Pirkle of Whitewright and Kyle Pirkle of Hamilton, Ohio; grandchildren, Ricky Pirkle, Kyle Pirkle Jr. and Toni "Sissy" Pirkle; brothers, Mike Leach and wife, Phyllis, and Bobby Brickey; twin sister, Sandy Page and husband, Richard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
