Slay Memorial Funeral Center Aubrey, Texas Stephen W. McKinney, 52, of Aubrey passed away suddenly Saturday, December 10, 2011, while mountain biking in Flower Mound from a heart attack. He was born August 10, 1959 in Arkansas to William and Clara Hopkins McKinney. He married Kati Bell on November 4, 1999 in Flower Mound, Texas. Steve graduated from Columbia University after being stationed in Germany with the United States Army. Steve worked many years at Texas Instruments Defense Systems, Raytheon, and he worked the past twelve years with Nokia, and Nokia Siemens Network as a Senior Software Engineer. Steve was a man of boundless energy and tenacity. Steve enjoyed working constantly on his various interests; building his Harleys and riding to Sturgis many years. He landscaped a beautiful garden at his home, and worked on their horse ranch, welding fencing and building in his workshop. He became an avid mountain biker and was often on the trails. Steve was an extraordinary cook and served gourmet meals often to his family and friends. He was a very capable man and an exceptional father, husband, son, sibling, and friend. Many will remember seeing him out with his beloved daughter, Quinn, to whom he was devoted. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his loving wife, Kati and their young daughter and sons. Steve is survived by his wife, Kati Bell and daughter, Quinn, both of Aubrey; sons, Jared Bell and Marlon Burton of Denton; parents William "Bill" and Clara of Mt. Home, Arkansas; sisters: Lori and husband Pete Kunellis of Kansas City, Missouri; and Sheryl and husband, Rob Sorem of Edina, Minnesota. A memorial service will be held, Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Slay Memorial Funeral Center Chapel in Aubrey, Texas.
