Sue Bratton

Sue Bratton passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, and started her new adventure with her Lord, Jesus Christ. Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Creekwood Church, 260 N. Miller, Mansfield. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Blessing Funeral Home, Mansfield. Sue was born April 29, 1949, in New Orleans and moved to Texas in 1960. Sue had an active and full childhood dancing, singing, playing the trumpet, practicing judo on her brother's friends, arm-wrestling with her cousins and just playing with sister Kathryn and their friends. The Skaggses' house on Press Drive in New Orleans was the scene of many musicals, magic shows and movies that were performed in the garage for the neighbors. The Skaggs family attended and were very active in Gentilly Presbyterian Church and, after moving to Texas, First Presbyterian Church in Arlington. Sue was a Girl Scout and cheerleader while at Ferguson Junior High and Sam Houston High School in Arlington. Sue was a member of Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Sue was very self-sufficient and a true action figure. She was always willing to be dragged behind her brother's boat when they went water skiing. Sue helped Johnny in the real estate business and worked at the Mansfield and Joshua post office for over 15 years. She always had a great garden, could do ceramic tile work, hang sheetrock, tape and bed, paint, cook, help with the kids' homework, and she passed these and many other skills and traits onto her children. Sue spent much of the last three years enjoying chasing after her youngest grandson, Carmen. Sue had faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and knew that through Christ, all things are possible. The things that are too big for man to handle are simple for Christ so she always brought Him along to assist in case she needed help with something she wanted to accomplish. She was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Dorothy Skaggs. Sue had a large family and group of friends that will miss her greatly but at the same time celebrate her acceptance into the kingdom of heaven. Survivors: Husband, Johnny Bratton; sons, Roger Wood, Curtis Wood and Kyle Bratton and wife, Rebecca; daughter, Sara Davis and husband, Chad; stepson, Mike Bratton and wife, Bobbi; stepdaughter, Christina Carey and husband, Kevin; stepdaughter, Gina Tucker and husband, Jerry; sister, Kathryn Townsend; and brother, Gene Skaggs and wife, Betty.
