Susan Garrett

KELLER -- Susan Ann Smith Garrett, our beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend left this earthly home on April 4, 2011.        Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday, April 15, at the Keller LDS Chapel 2001 Willis Lane, Keller, with Bishop Douglas Murri, officiating.        Graveside services will follow at Bourland Cemetery in Keller.        Visitation: A viewing will be held for Susan 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at Lucas Funeral Home 137 E. Hill St., in Keller, and 9:00-9:45 a.m. Friday at the Keller LDS Chapel.        Susan was born on November 14, 1952, to Wayne and Odessa Smith in Ogden, Utah, and grew up in Portland, Oregon. Susan attended Portland State University, where she drove her and her friends around in a red 1959 Ford gas guzzler with wings.        After marrying Frank she moved to Vancouver, Washington and it was there she welcomed her two sons, Paul and Chris. Besides her favorite job of being a mom, Susan worked as an administrative assistant, and then as travel coordinator for Columbia Ultimate where she was affectionately known as "travel babe."        Susan came to Texas in 2000 and it was here she became "Aunt Susan" not only to her nieces and nephews, but to the youth at church and many of the sports teams at Fossil Ridge High School.        Susan was known for her cheerfulness, her love of people, her serving heart, and her great smile. Before the limitations of Huntington's disease, Susan had never met an adventure she didn't like. She loved to play games, read, laugh, craft, cook, and most of all dance, before she had to retire her high heels.        Besides the sparkle in her eyes and her great smile, the thing that will be missed the most is her hugs.lucky you if you were on the receiving end!        Susan's family would like to thank all who tenderly cared for her at Mimosa Manor in Keller, and all her friends who instantly became part of Susan's extended family.        Those who will miss her most are her sons, Paul and Chris Garrett; her brothers and sisters, Dennis (and Sheila) Smith, Jeff Smith, Linda (and Mike) Stratton, and Teri (and Kelly) Thomas; stepfather, Calvin Russell; and many nieces and nephews.
