KELLER -- Susan Elizabeth Hanifen, 56, of Keller died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011, at home, surrounded by family. Memorial service: 3 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church of Keller, where Susan had attended services for more than 25 years. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Dec. 20, 1954, Susan was the daughter of James and Helen Hanifen and the mother of Peter and Kelly Goeken. Susan graduated in 1973 from Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1977 with degrees in political science, history and environmental science. In July, Susan received recognition for 30 years of service as a flight attendant for American Airlines. One of her favorite routes was the overnight to Miami with her 777 friends. Susan was a remarkable woman whose many life experiences included campaigning for Jimmy Carter and attending his inauguration, traveling the world with friends and family, scrap booking, bingo club, keno group and book club. Her sense of humor, witty conversation, endless generosity, radiant smile and gentle spirit will be greatly missed. Survivors: Son, Peter Goeken; daughter, Kelly Goeken; parents, James and Helen Hanifen; brother, James Hanifen III; sisters, Rosemary Hanifen Watters and Julie Ann Hanifen; and nieces, nephews, many other family and friends who loved her dearly.
