FORT WORTH -- Suzanne Martin Murray passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, in her 72nd year. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Christ Chapel Bible Church, 3749 Birchman Ave. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Jewel Charity, 600 Bailey Ave., Suite A, Fort Worth, Texas 76107; Christ Chapel Bible Church; Young Life of Fort Worth, 5801 Curzon Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76107; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105; or the American College of Rheumatology Research and Education Foundation, 2200 Lake Blvd. NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30319, in Suzie's memory, is suggested. Suzie was born in Montgomery, Ala., the daughter of Vernon and Kathrine Brown Martin, who preceded her in death. She attended Auburn University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Following college, Suzie was a flight attendant for American Airlines, prior to her marriage in 1960 to local banker James L. Murray. She quickly became active as a volunteer with numerous non-profit organizations. Her warmth and soft Alabama accent coupled with a strong sense of determination made her a welcome addition to Fort Worth. Suzie's community involvements included 2002 president of Jewel Charity, member of the Junior League of Fort Worth, former member of the Woman's Board of Cook Children's Medical Center, former leader of Bible Study Fellowship, early volunteer at the Child Study Center and Easter Seal Society and a docent at the Fort Worth Zoo. In recent years, Suzie faced numerous challenges to her health, which she met bravely and graciously, the same qualities that had endeared her to so many. To quote one friend, she was truly a "steel magnolia." Survivors: In addition to her husband of 49 years, Jim, Suzie is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Dodd and her husband, John, and their children, Joy and Grace, all of Brentwood, Tenn.; and brother, Don Martin and his wife, Connie of San Pedro, Calif.
