Theda Lee Selman, 93, died Wendesday, February 29 at 1 a.m. at a nursing home in Kennedale. Funeral Service: 10 a.m., Saturday at Blessing Colonial Chapel, Mansfield. Visitation: One hour before the service. Memorials: memorials may be made to Retta Baptist Church or a favorite charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers. Theda was born in Burleson on June 28, 1918 to William Howard and Della Lavina Oliver Selman. She was the fifth child of a family of ten. She grew up in the Rendon community and joined Retta Baptist Church and was baptized August 21, 1932. She graduated from Paschal High School and Business College. During WWII, she worked as a payroll clerk at Convair Defense Plant. She later worked as an executive secretary at Texas Refinery and as a purchasing agent for Royal Oil. Theda returned to work after retirement and was employed at Transport Life Insurance for many years. She enjoyed taking her young nieces and nephews to special events playing, playing scrabble, forty-two and Polyanna with family members, working in her yard and finding "treasures" at garage sales. She was a Cowboys football and Texas Rangers baseball fan. Her favorite pet was a parakeet named Pretty Boy that she taught to talk. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Pecan Manor Nursing and Rehab and Community Hospice for her care during the many years she resided at the nursing home. Also, appreciation to Retta Baptist Church's ministry to Theda while a shut-in at home and during her residence at the nursing home since 2003. Theda was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Frank Selman and Alan Selman; five sisters, Ruby Sargis, Mattie Renfro, Nellie Selman, Violet Day and Imogene Criswell. Survivors: Sisters, Mae Dee Martin and Dorotha May Webb; and many nieces and nephews.
