BEDFORD -- William James "Bill" Minick Jr., a resident of North Richland Hills, died Thursday, June 30, 2011. Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday in Richland Hills Church of Christ (The Hills) Chapel. Prior to the service, a luncheon will be held in the Family Life Center at Richland Hills Church of Christ for family and close friends, beginning at noon. Interment: 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Mr. Minick was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Grand Prairie to William James Minick and Lula Vashti Reynolds-Minick of Honeygrove, one of two children. Bill counted it one of life's greatest blessings to have served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and he felt fortunate to have had two successful careers, a faithful and loving wife and five children. He was an evangelist who preached for 37 years in Cameron, Sanger, El Paso, Arlington and Snyder, and Eau Claire, Wis., and later served as a Bible School teacher for nearly 20 years and an elder for five at Richland Hills Church of Christ. He had a successful insurance and financial planning practice for more than 30 years. One of Bill's greatest joys as an adult was playing tennis and he was forever grateful for his "tennis buddies" and the hours they shared. Survivors: He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Lynn Johnson-Minick; and five children, Deborah Hoffman of Abilene, Diane Jones of Boulder, Colo., Dana Proffer of North Richland Hills, Bill Minick III of Dallas and DeeDee Wiese of Livermore, Calif. He is also survived and remembered by 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
