ALVARADO -- William Gilbert Wylie, 88, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, in Tulsa, Okla., after a short illness. William was born Sept. 28, 1918, in Hubbard, the son of Henry Frank and Fern Moye Wylie. He lived most of his childhood in Mexia, where his church home continued to be First Baptist of Mexia. William served in the armed forces, including the National Guard, from Aug. 2, 1940, through October 1951 and saw service in the Pacific islands in the Company B 143rd Infantry during World War II. Proud of his own service record, he was also pleased to pass on to his family the legacy of his membership in the Texas chapter of National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Wylie lived and worked in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for over 32 years while employed at Braniff Airways. He was preceded in death by his sister, Francis; brother, Irby; and his son, Anthony Brian Wylie. Survivors: His brother, Le Roy Wylie of Mansfield; daughter, Pamela Wylie of South Carolina; grandchildren, Shelly Goforth of Tulsa, Okla., Christopher Jason Wylie of Houston and Jason Raymond Grennier of Lewisville; and great-grandchildren, Heather Renee, Amanda Marie and Brian John Ashcraft of Anderson, Ind.
